Anambra State Bureau of Statistics Concludes CPI Workshop

The Anambra State Bureau of Statistics has successfully concluded a capacity workshop on Consumer Price Index (CPI) Compilation and Rebasing. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics and the World Bank.

The objective of the workshop was to equip statisticians in the state with the necessary skills and knowledge to align with the new methodology of price compilation at the national level. The Statistician General/Managing Director of the Anambra State Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Obiora Obiabunmo, emphasized the importance of the training in enabling the bureau to effectively monitor and regulate price fluctuations in the state.

The Head of Prices Statistics at the National Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Anthony Ayo, highlighted the significance of CPI in enabling the government to monitor and regulate price fluctuations, which in turn addresses scarcity and supply issues. The workshop is part of the efforts to improve the computation of price indices in the state.

The Statistician General of the Anambra State Bureau of Statistics expressed gratitude to the National Bureau of Statistics and the World Bank for selecting Anambra as one of the 14 pilot states for the new price index computation workshop. He also thanked the Governor of Anambra State and the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning for their support.

The successful conclusion of the workshop marks a significant step towards improving the capacity of the Anambra State Bureau of Statistics to compile and analyze CPI data. The training will enable the bureau to provide more accurate and reliable data, which will inform policy decisions and support economic development in the state.
