Residents of Moriki town in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have reported a fresh suspected bandit attack in which several people were allegedly abducted shortly after dawn prayers. The reported incident has left affected families concerned about the whereabouts and safety of their relatives.
According to an account received on Monday, October 26, 2026, armed men reportedly entered Moriki at approximately 5:30 a.m., shortly after the early morning Islamic prayer. The attackers were alleged to have taken several residents away, although the total number of people abducted has not been independently confirmed.
One distressed resident reported that at least three members of their family were among those taken. The resident expressed concern for their safety and said relatives were hoping and praying for their return.
The account did not identify the abducted persons or establish where they were taken. It also did not provide information about injuries, fatalities, ransom demands or contact between the alleged abductors and affected families.
Stone Reporters News has not independently verified the circumstances of the reported attack. At the time of this report, no official statement specifically confirming the alleged October 26 abductions in Moriki had been established from the Zamfara State Police Command or other security authorities.
The report comes amid continuing security concerns in Zurmi Local Government Area, where armed attacks and kidnappings have previously affected communities.
Moriki has experienced earlier incidents involving the abduction of residents. In August 2025, reports indicated that at least 20 people, mostly women and girls, had been kidnapped during an attack on the town.
In January 2026, security personnel reportedly rescued 20 villagers abducted from Dunfawa, a community in Moriki District. Those incidents are separate from the latest allegation and do not establish the circumstances of Monday's reported attack.
Recent security concerns have also prompted the Zamfara State Government to announce measures aimed at strengthening protection for vulnerable communities. In October, state officials identified Moriki among areas affected by armed attacks while outlining plans to train forest guards and reinforce security operations.
The government said the proposed measures would complement existing security arrangements and help protect communities exposed to repeated violence.
However, the information currently available does not establish whether security personnel responded to Monday's alleged incident or whether any search-and-rescue operation has commenced.
The identity of the suspected attackers also remains unknown. No individual or armed group has been independently linked to the reported abductions.
For families awaiting information, the immediate concern remains the safety of those allegedly taken from their homes or neighbourhoods during the early morning incident.
Further confirmation is needed to determine the number of victims, establish the sequence of events and clarify the response of security authorities.
Stone Reporters News will continue to seek verified information concerning the reported incident and the welfare of the affected residents.
