Motorist’s Tip-Off Leads to Arrest of Suspected Motorcycle, Generator Thief in Ogun as Accomplice Escapes

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Adam Muhammed over the suspected theft of a motorcycle and generator in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area. The arrest followed information supplied by a motorist who noticed suspicious movements involving an unregistered tricycle transporting the two items.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, along the Onigbedu–Itori Road in Ogun State. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the development in a statement, explaining that officers attached to the Ewekoro Division intercepted the tricycle following an alert from a member of the public.

According to the police, the motorist noticed an unregistered tricycle carrying a grey Haojue Lady motorcycle and a Firman generator, with two passengers on board. Suspecting that the items might have been stolen, he contacted security personnel while continuing to observe the vehicle's movements.

The motorist reportedly followed the tricycle towards Complex Junction in Itori, along the route leading to Papalanto. His information enabled police operatives to locate and intercept the vehicle before its occupants could leave the area.

Babaseyi said the two occupants attempted to escape when officers intercepted the tricycle. Police pursued them and arrested Muhammed, while the second suspect managed to flee.

The command confirmed that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect, whose name and whereabouts had not been disclosed.

Preliminary police investigations reportedly linked the recovered motorcycle and generator to an earlier theft complaint in Itori. However, the command did not provide details about the original owners, the circumstances in which the property was taken or the precise location of the alleged theft.

The police also did not disclose whether the recovered items had been formally identified by their owners or whether additional evidence had been obtained linking Muhammed directly to the reported crime.

Muhammed remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not announced any formal criminal charges or court proceedings against him.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for responding promptly to the information supplied by the motorist. He said effective intelligence gathering and timely police intervention were important in preventing criminal activities and protecting property.

Ojajuni also praised the motorist for demonstrating vigilance and civic responsibility. According to the commissioner, members of the public can contribute to crime prevention by promptly reporting suspicious movements and providing useful information to security agencies.

“Timely report can make the difference between a successful crime and its prevention,” the commissioner said.

He reaffirmed the command's commitment to proactive patrols, prompt responses to credible intelligence and continued efforts to prevent criminal activities across Ogun State.

The police chief urged residents to remain observant and cooperate with security personnel by reporting suspicious activities through appropriate channels.

The circumstances of the arrest highlight the role of public information in police operations. In this instance, the intervention began with a motorist's observations rather than an independently reported police patrol discovering the suspected offence.

The command's account indicates that officers acted after receiving information about the movement of the tricycle and its cargo. The subsequent interception resulted in one arrest and the recovery of the motorcycle and generator.

However, the recovery of property during an arrest does not by itself establish the criminal responsibility of a suspect. Investigators must determine how the items came into the occupants' possession and whether evidence supports the allegation that they were unlawfully obtained.

The identity and role of the fleeing individual also remain matters for investigation. Police have not disclosed whether the second suspect was responsible for transporting the items, participating in the alleged theft or carrying out another activity connected with the incident.

The command has not announced whether the tricycle itself was recovered or whether its ownership and registration status are being examined. Although officers described the vehicle as unregistered, no further information was provided about its origin.

Similarly, the police statement did not indicate the estimated value of the motorcycle and generator. No details were released about the amount of property allegedly stolen in the original incident or whether other items remain missing.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances of the reported theft and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to support criminal proceedings.

The Ogun State Police Command has continued to emphasise cooperation between residents and security agencies as part of its approach to crime prevention. The commissioner maintained that prompt reporting could assist officers in responding before suspected offenders escaped.

For residents of Itori and surrounding communities, the incident illustrates the potential importance of timely information in recovering suspected stolen property. It also underscores the need for investigations to distinguish suspicion from established criminal conduct.

Muhammed is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until a competent court determines otherwise. His arrest and continued detention should therefore not be interpreted as proof that he committed the alleged theft.

The command has not announced a date for any possible court appearance or provided a timetable for completing its investigation.

Police say efforts to locate the fleeing suspect are continuing, while detectives work to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The recovered motorcycle and generator remain central to the investigation, which began after the motorist reported the suspicious movement of the unregistered tricycle along the Onigbedu–Itori Road.
