The Plateau State First Lady, Barr. Helen Mutfwang, has expressed pride in being part of an initiative designed to empower women, especially the most vulnerable. The initiative, which trained 300 widows and vulnerable women in the production of household consumables, aimed to equip them with tools and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty and contribute to the growth of the state.

The women received training in business and financial management, branding, and marketing, in addition to the production of household consumables such as bleach, liquid soap, petroleum jelly, balm, and antiseptic. The First Lady commended Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for releasing funds for the project, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the well-being of widows and vulnerable women in the state.

To ensure the skills acquired are put to productive use, each participant will receive a starter pack to support them in starting their own businesses. The State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development will provide follow-up mentorship, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure the businesses thrive.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Governor, the First Lady, and the Commissioner for the training and start-up packs, which will enable them to build sustainable livelihoods. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development commended the Governor for his support towards vulnerable women, particularly those from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and rural communities.

The empowerment programme for widows and vulnerable women is a testament to the government's commitment to supporting the well-being of its citizens. The initiative has equipped the women with skills and knowledge to become self-reliant and contribute to the growth of the state. The provision of starter packs and ongoing support will help ensure the success of their businesses.
