Atan-Ijaiye, Oyo State — August 2, 2025 — The Oyo State Government on Friday welcomed a high-level delegation of dignitaries to the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub in Ijaiye. The event marked a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing drive to transform its agricultural sector into a key engine of economic growth.

The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, who represented the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Also present was the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, alongside state officials, development partners, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders.

The Ijaiye hub, strategically located in Atan-Ijaiye, is a central site for the implementation of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) project in Oyo State. The core processing zone will initially occupy 300 hectares of land and is part of a broader 3,000-hectare development plan.

Once completed, the hub will include a Rungis-style wholesale agrifood market, modern crop and livestock production and processing facilities, and a wide range of agribusiness support services. It is designed to create jobs, increase food production, reduce post-harvest losses, and boost exports.

Governor Seyi Makinde has emphasized the project’s potential to revolutionize agribusiness in the state, attract private sector investment, and position Oyo as a major player in regional and international food supply chains.

The SAPZ initiative is a flagship program of the African Development Bank, supported by the Federal Government and other international partners, aimed at creating agriculturally-driven economic zones that enhance productivity and rural development.

The Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub represents a bold step toward inclusive, sustainable, and industrialized agriculture in Nigeria’s southwest region.
