In a concerted effort to deepen inter-agency collaboration and enhance traffic safety across Ekiti State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MCILT, on Thursday, led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for Transportation, Ekiti State, Hon. Kolawole Kehinde Ajobiewe.

The visit, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, was aimed at consolidating the working relationship between the FRSC and the State Ministry of Transportation. It also provided a platform for the discussion of critical road safety concerns and joint strategies for sustainable traffic management across the state.

In his remarks, Corps Commander Adeoye expressed appreciation for the Ministry's past support but emphasized the need for stronger collaboration to confront emerging challenges on Ekiti’s roads. He outlined a number of pressing issues currently affecting road safety, chief among them being the deteriorating condition of some road sections, habitual disobedience to traffic light signals by motorists, and the persistent problem of indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles, especially in major urban areas and around transport hubs.

“These issues not only create bottlenecks and delays but also significantly increase the risk of accidents and fatalities,” Adeoye noted. “We must approach these challenges with shared responsibility and decisive action.”

The Sector Commander stressed the importance of harmonizing enforcement strategies and policy frameworks between the FRSC and the Ministry to ensure compliance with traffic regulations. He also advocated for increased investment in public education campaigns on road safety, particularly targeting commercial drivers, motorcycle operators, and heavy-duty vehicle operators.

Responding to the Sector Commander’s observations, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Kolawole Kehinde Ajobiewe, commended the FRSC for its relentless efforts in promoting road discipline and reducing crash statistics in the state. He acknowledged the critical role the Corps plays in ensuring the safety of lives and property on the roads and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to partner more robustly with the FRSC.

“The FRSC remains one of our most dependable partners in road traffic administration and safety enforcement,” Ajobiewe said. “We recognize the urgency of the issues raised today, and I assure you that the Ministry will not relent in providing the necessary support and prompt interventions to address them.”

The Commissioner further disclosed that plans were underway to review and update traffic management policies, with a focus on enforcing stricter sanctions for traffic light violations and developing designated parking zones for heavy vehicles to decongest urban centers.

He also highlighted the State Government's commitment to rehabilitating critical road infrastructure in collaboration with federal agencies and relevant stakeholders.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to establish a joint technical committee to coordinate follow-up actions, monitor progress, and recommend further areas for collaboration. Both leaders expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would lead to significant improvements in traffic safety and overall transportation efficiency within Ekiti State.

The FRSC delegation included key officers from the Ekiti Sector Command, while top officials from the Ministry of Transportation were also in attendance. The engagement underscores a shared vision for safer, smarter, and more efficient road usage in the state.
