The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to justice and security following the gruesome murder of Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi, a prominent fish dealer popularly known as Fish Magnet, who was recently kidnapped and killed in the state.
During a condolence visit to the bereaved mother, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, expressed the government's deep sorrow and determination to bring the perpetrators to book.
“This is a heart-wrenching tragedy. The state government stands firmly with you in the search for justice,” Dr. Mefor said during the visit.
Mefor disclosed that Anambra State Police Command has already made progress in the investigation, including the recovery of the vehicle used in the abduction. He assured the grieving family that no one involved in the crime will go unpunished.
“Nobody can commit such a dastardly act in Anambra State and get away with it. We will fight to get justice for Martin, for his mother, for his family, and for the people of Anambra,” he said.
Dr. Mefor emphasized that the killing is a direct challenge to the Solution Government’s security architecture, led by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, which was officially launched on February 18, 2025.
“Since the launch of the new security system, safety in Anambra has improved significantly. We are fully addressing every security challenge across the state. Anyone who dares to threaten peace now faces Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, the government’s two new elite security outfits,” Mefor noted.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Hon. Van George Ezeogidi (Ijele Utuh), Mayor of Nnewi South Local Government Area. Both officials extended heartfelt condolences to the Onyekesi family, calling the murder a painful loss for the entire state.
Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi was known as a successful fish merchant and respected community member. His abduction and subsequent murder sent shockwaves through Anambra State, prompting widespread condemnation and urgent calls for improved security.
