Governor Hope Uzodimma has vowed to leave no stone unturned in rooting out gunmen terrorising Imo State, following a string of brutal killings in Ideato North. At a special service held Sunday at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, he offered heartfelt condolences to the families affected in Arondizuogu and surrounding communities.
While visibly angered by the recent bloodshed, Uzodimma also implicated some politicians in obstructing peace efforts, stressing that government will do whatever it takes to secure the state and end political sabotage.
💬 Key Messages from the Governor
“Government will stop at nothing to end these spates of killings and worrisome activities of unknown gunmen—many of whom may actually be known.”
Recalling the 2023 beheading of Ideato North’s council chairman, the governor noted the suspect had been apprehended, confessed, and named his sponsors—some of whom are already under police interrogation.
He lamented individuals who pretended to support his administration while allegedly conspiring to undermine it.
He said that within two weeks, every town and ward in Imo State will receive a fully funded, government-supported local vigilance group, equipped and coordinated for security patrol and intelligence-sharing.
Authorities will pursue all suspects implicated in Ideato violence. More arrests are expected as investigations unfold.
Uzodimma appealed to citizens to support peace efforts by resisting politically motivated disruptions—and warned pretenders to desist immediately.
In his appeal to well-meaning citizens, the governor encouraged support for vulnerable residents to enrol in the Imo Health Insurance Scheme, which offers free healthcare access.
“Let us work as brothers and sisters to restore the Imo State of our collective dream,” he said.
Earlier in the service, Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine Agoawike exhorted Christians to share their blessings and refrain from chokehold attachments to material gain. He cited the parable of the rich man to remind the faithful that earthly possessions fade, but peace and compassion endure.
Imo State has seen rising insecurity—kidnappings, assassinations, political intimidation, and community terror have heightened fear. Uzodimma’s approach signals a combined strategy: intelligence-led enforcement, state-backed local vigilance, and moral mobilization of citizens to reclaim security.
