The Adamawa State House of Assembly has commenced legislative procedures on the appointment of members to the Adamawa State Judicial Service Commission, following the submission of three nominees by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
During Monday’s plenary session, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, read a letter from the Governor forwarding the names of Justice Danladi Mohammed, Barrister Hassan Mai Dawa, and Mrs. Mary Karzai for consideration as members of the Commission.
The Speaker, after reading the letter, referred the nominations to the House Standing Committee on Judiciary for further legislative action. The committee has been tasked with inviting the nominees for screening, carrying out a detailed review, and reporting back to the Assembly with its recommendations.
The nomination process aligns with the administration’s efforts to ensure an independent and efficient judiciary in the state, as the Judicial Service Commission plays a critical role in the appointment, promotion, and discipline of judicial officers.
Following the referral of the letter, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Mrs. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa Constituency), moved a motion for the adjournment of the sitting. The motion was adopted, and the next plenary was scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025.
The consideration of the nominees is expected to proceed in accordance with legislative procedures, reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and good governance in judicial appointments.
