Ndume Secures Release of Wrongly Accused Gwoza Businessman, Says: “It’s Not Politics, It’s About My People'''

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has reiterated that his continued interventions and advocacy in Gwoza and the wider Borno South region are rooted in compassion, not political ambition. The lawmaker made the declaration while speaking on the recent release of Femaye, a Gwoza-based businessman who was wrongfully accused in a Boko Haram-related case.

Describing the incident as both a personal and communal trial, Senator Ndume reflected on his own past experiences with false accusations, recalling the emotional and psychological toll of being wrongfully detained.

> “What happened to Femaye was a test from Allah,” he said. “I understand his pain. I’ve been through it myself. I once had breakfast with former President Goodluck Jonathan, and not long after, I was arrested for allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram. I spent 21 days in detention—completely isolated.”

He further shared that his international passport was seized for six years, preventing him from entering the United States. Despite these setbacks, Ndume ran for office while in detention and ultimately rose to become Senate Leader, a journey that he says deepened his connection with the people.

> “That experience taught me patience and made me stronger. It also helped build a bond of trust with my people that cannot be shaken,” he said.

Senator Ndume explained that it was through this trust and access to key individuals in government that he was able to advocate effectively for Femaye’s release.

> “My relationship with people in the right places played a major role. But I didn’t do it for recognition—I did it because it was the right thing to do,” he emphasized.

The release of Femaye has sparked a wave of gratitude across the community. Family and friends welcomed him with tears of joy, expressing heartfelt thanks to Senator Ndume. Many described the Senator not just as a representative, but as a father figure—someone who stands firmly for justice and truth, regardless of public opinion.

The incident has once again shone a light on Senator Ndume’s unwavering commitment to the people of Borno South, reinforcing his reputation as a leader driven by service, not political calculation.
