The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed over ₦421 billion in direct financial aid to vulnerable citizens under its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme, according to Dr. Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with ARISE News on Thursday, July 7, the minister defended the administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation and humanitarian support, noting that significant progress had been made despite public skepticism.
> “People thought that nothing much had been done, but as of today, over ₦421 billion has been transferred as a Conditional Cash Transfer to Nigerians,” Dr. Sununu stated.

Social Registers: Identifying the Most Vulnerable
Dr. Sununu emphasized that all beneficiaries of the programme are drawn from a verified national database.
> “You must meet all criteria required to be listed in the National Social Register, which currently houses data for over 18.9 million households,” he explained.
In addition to the main register, the Ministry also uses a separate database — the Rapid Response Register — to identify and prioritize the most vulnerable groups for faster intervention.
> “We use the Rapid Response Register to extract the most at-risk households who may not be captured in traditional systems but are in urgent need,” he said.

Accountability and Impact
The disclosure comes amid public demand for transparency and measurable impact in government welfare schemes. Dr. Sununu reassured Nigerians that the ministry remains committed to transparent, data-driven delivery of social support, adding that the Conditional Cash Transfer programme is being monitored for efficiency and real-time impact on beneficiaries.
The Federal Government's intervention programmes are part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at reducing poverty, promoting economic inclusion, and ensuring social protection for Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens.
