The Ondo State Girls Guides Association has paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Bose Osamaye, in a continued effort to strengthen advocacy around girl child empowerment and protection.
The visit, which took place at the Commissioner’s office, was part of the Association’s activities leading up to its four-day retreat being held at Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure.

Guiding Girls for the Future
Speaking during the visit, the Chief Commissioner of the Nigerian Girls Guides Association, Mrs. Rhoda Olufunmilola Thomas, emphasized the need for consistent training, protection, and empowerment of young girls across the country.
> “Girls should stand for themselves,” she said.
“They should not encourage body shaming, must reject bad influence, and always have the courage to speak up.”
She reiterated that girl child development is not just a social need but a national responsibility that requires collaboration between civil society, families, and government.

Commissioner Reaffirms Government Support
In her response, Dr. Seun Bose Osamaye expressed appreciation for the visit and reassured the Guides of the Ondo State Government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of women and children.
> “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has the interests of women and girls at heart. As a Ministry, we are implementing the O'Datiwa Women Initiative Blueprint, which outlines 10 core focus areas targeting women and children,” Dr. Osamaye said.
She disclosed that the Ministry is organizing a Teen Girl Annual Programme that will feature over 200 girls from across the State, providing them with opportunities for education, mentorship, and empowerment.

New Ambassador for the Girl Child
In recognition of her advocacy and dedication, Dr. Seun Bose Osamaye was officially decorated as the Ambassador for the Girl Child in Ondo State. The honor was conferred by Mrs. Rhoda Olufunmilola Thomas and other senior members of the Girls Guides Association, who presented her with the official girl child scarf as a symbol of her new role.
The Commissioner pledged to continue using her platform to amplify the voices of girls and push for policies that promote gender equality, education, and self-confidence among young women.
