The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian youths, particularly National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, to be innovation-driven and leverage the internet for positive ventures rather than engaging in cybercrime.
Olukoyede issued the charge on Thursday, August 7, 2025, while addressing corps members of Batch B, Stream 1 at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, where he was represented by Babatunde Sulaiman, Head of Public Affairs, EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2.
He cautioned that involvement in internet fraud and other corrupt practices can destroy a young person's future, stating that ex-convicts face serious limitations including being disqualified from holding public office, securing international visas, or leading serious enterprises.
> “Over time, internet fraudsters are getting convicted in multiples and wearing tags of ex-convicts. This is a roadblock to future advancements… The implication of this is grave,” he warned.
Olukoyede emphasized that the youth must take it upon themselves to discourage criminal behavior among their peers and become ambassadors of integrity.
In a similar engagement at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kiama, Bayelsa State, where he was represented by Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC II, Otagada Sunday Ogar, Olukoyede stressed the urgent need for youth participation in the anti-corruption fight.
> “As young Nigerians, you can only shape tomorrow by changing today… If we desire an open tomorrow, we must not close our prospects today,” he said.
In Rivers State, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nounwa Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, he reiterated his position through Deputy Superintendent of the EFCC, James Adayilo Hosea, affirming the Commission’s commitment to rooting out internet fraud and reinforcing its professional stance in the anti-corruption war.
At the Iseyin Orientation Camp in Oyo State, speaking through Superintendent of the EFCC, Olumide Egbodofo, Olukoyede called for deliberate action against corruption. He urged corps members to embrace whistleblowing and actively partner with the EFCC in spreading the anti-corruption message.
Across multiple EFCC directorates — including Kano, Maiduguri, Ilorin, Enugu, Makurdi, and Uyo — the anti-corruption boss maintained a consistent message: that corps members must rise as foot soldiers in the war against corruption.
Olukoyede’s nationwide campaign highlights the EFCC's ongoing efforts to promote youth empowerment, ethical conduct, and the strategic role of Nigeria’s young population in building a corruption-free society.
