Oyo State Government Debunks Fake Pensioner Verification Notice, Warns Against Fraud

Published on 9 August 2025 at 09:16

The Oyo State Government has strongly denied and condemned a fraudulent message circulating among pensioners regarding a fake verification exercise, warning elderly citizens and retirees to remain vigilant against misinformation and scam tactics.

The rebuttal was made in an official statement issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, by the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu Salihu, and made available to the media through the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

According to Prof. Salihu, the false notice is not from the Ministry and should be completely disregarded. The fraudulent message allegedly directs pensioners to submit photocopies of their pension authority certificates, account details, and phone numbers to Room 103 of the Ministry—a clear attempt to exploit vulnerable retirees.

“The message is false, misleading, and dangerous. It did not originate from the Ministry,” Prof. Salihu stressed.

“Any genuine verification or disbursement exercise will be formally communicated to the concerned individuals through official and trusted channels.”

⚠️ Public Alert: Verify Before You Act

Prof. Salihu urged all pensioners to exercise caution and to verify any suspicious claims or notices before responding, reiterating that no personal details should be handed out without official confirmation.

He reassured pensioners that when it is their turn to receive benefits, the Ministry would reach out directly using authentic and well-established communication platforms.

🤝 Government Reaffirms Commitment to Retirees’ Welfare

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication, Prof. Salihu praised the government of Governor Seyi Makinde for its consistent support and transparent approach to pension and gratuity disbursements.

“The welfare of our retirees remains a top priority. The government is committed to transparency, due process, and the timely delivery of all entitlements,” he said.

📣 A Call for Public Support

The statement concluded with a call to the general public to help spread accurate information and protect the elderly from exploitation.

“This is a collective responsibility. Family members, community leaders, and the media must work together to shield our senior citizens from fraud,” said Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation.
