NYSC Clarifies Withheld Certificate of Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye: No Political Motive Involved

Published on 10 August 2025 at 16:19

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has formally addressed and debunked misleading claims circulating across social media platforms regarding the non-issuance of a Certificate of National Service (CNS) to Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with State Code Number LA/24B/8325.

Contrary to viral reports suggesting that Ms. Uguamaye was denied her CNS due to criticism of the government, the NYSC Management has categorically stated that these allegations are entirely false and without basis.

According to an official statement released by the NYSC, Ms. Uguamaye is one of 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, she failed to participate in the mandatory April 2025 biometric clearance, a breach of NYSC Bye-Laws which necessitated a two-month extension of her service year.

> “This extension is a standard procedure applied equally to all corps members in similar situations,” the NYSC emphasized, urging the public not to politicize routine disciplinary measures.

The agency further reaffirmed its commitment to equity, transparency, and compliance with existing rules, stating that decisions regarding disciplinary actions are guided solely by internal regulations—not external opinions or political sentiments.

> “Extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be misinterpreted or weaponized,” the statement read.

As the NYSC continues its mandate to foster national unity and development through youth engagement, the public is encouraged to verify facts before spreading potentially damaging misinformation.

> “Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the NYSC concluded.
