IG of Police Extends Deadline for Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement to October 2, 2025

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has formally announced a further extension of the enforcement deadline for the regulation of tinted glass permits across the country. The new enforcement date is now set for October 2, 2025.

This development was confirmed in a statement issued from Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday, and is aimed at allowing Nigerians additional time to comply with the existing regulatory framework on vehicle tinted glass permits.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, the extension comes after a review of the current compliance level and in response to public concerns regarding delays and procedural bottlenecks in the permit application process.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring public safety and the enforcement of relevant traffic and vehicular regulations. However, in consideration of public concerns, the IGP has approved an extension of the grace period to October 2, 2025,” the statement read.

Key Details:

  • New Enforcement Date: October 2, 2025

  • Permit Requirement: Applies to all vehicles with factory-fitted or aftermarket tinted windows.

  • Application Process: Vehicle owners are urged to obtain their permits via the official Nigeria Police portal or through accredited centers.

  • Enforcement Notice: Upon expiration of the extended deadline, law enforcement agencies will commence full enforcement. Defaulters may face legal sanctions including impoundment of vehicles or fines as stipulated by law.

The Police further advised motorists to avoid patronizing unauthorized agents and to ensure that their permits are duly verified and authenticated.

The tinted glass permit policy has remained a vital part of national security efforts, aimed at curbing criminal activities often concealed behind obscured vehicle windows.
