The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has emphasized the critical need for greater synergy among African nations to effectively combat corruption across the continent.

Dr. Aliyu made the remarks during his address at the 3rd Annual National Prosecutors’ Conference held in Lusaka, Zambia. The conference, hosted by the National Prosecution Authority of Zambia, convened senior legal experts, anti-corruption leaders, and prosecutors from across Africa to share strategies and innovations for justice reform and institutional accountability.

Delivering his address, Dr. Aliyu noted that corruption remains a deeply rooted challenge that transcends borders, and as such, requires collaborative responses from African countries to ensure more impactful outcomes.

"No single country can adequately address the scourge of corruption in isolation. Effective asset recovery, information sharing, and coordinated legal frameworks are necessary pillars of our joint response," Dr. Aliyu said.

As part of his contribution to the conference, the ICPC Chairman is scheduled to present a detailed paper titled:
“Combatting Corruption and Implementing Robust Asset Recovery Mechanisms” on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

His presentation will explore practical steps for building cross-border cooperation, strengthening prosecutorial frameworks, and leveraging international conventions in recovering illicit assets.

Conference Theme:

“The Evolving Role of a Prosecutor in a Complex World: Innovation and Sustainable Practices.”

This year's theme reflects the growing expectations on prosecutorial bodies to adapt to complex criminal networks, while also embracing innovative legal tools and ensuring long-term institutional sustainability.

Dr. Aliyu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s ongoing leadership and engagement in regional anti-corruption efforts, and highlights the ICPC’s continued commitment to institutional reforms and justice system strengthening.
