Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured with the South-South Governor of the Year Award at the Progressive Digital Media Summit held on August 1, 2025, in Abuja.
The award recognises Governor Oborevwori’s impactful leadership and commitment to development, particularly his support for youth innovation and infrastructural transformation in Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori’s administration has implemented key projects, including the approval of over ₦275 billion for 76 development projects across the state’s three senatorial districts. Among these is the flagship Warri–Effurun flyover and road expansion project, valued at ₦78 billion, aimed at improving urban mobility and boosting economic activity.
In addition, the Governor has overseen the completion of more than 1,500 kilometers of road rehabilitation and over 500 road projects, extending infrastructure development to rural and riverine communities.
The government also commissioned a modern High Court Complex, equipped with advanced facilities such as digital filing systems and a law library, underscoring its commitment to strengthening the judiciary.
Efforts at grassroots development include equitable allocation of a minimum of ₦2 billion in road infrastructure to each of Delta’s 25 local government areas. Education has been a focus area with investments in rural schools and expanded university programs.
Through the D-CARES programme, the administration has empowered over 200,000 residents with grants, training, and support for entrepreneurship, alongside targeted agricultural inputs to boost food production.
Speaking on receiving the award, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting youth initiatives and sustainable development.
The Progressive Digital Media Summit gathers leaders from various sectors to promote innovation, good governance, and youth empowerment. Governor Oborevwori’s recognition highlights his role as a leading figure in South-South Nigeria’s progress.
