The Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed that seven out of the 16 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Keffi (New), have been recaptured, while the manhunt continues for the remaining fugitives.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, left five correctional officers injured, with two still in serious condition and receiving treatment at a government hospital.

According to Umar Abubakar, Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, the breach happened when inmates overpowered security, attacked personnel, and escaped custody.

Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has vowed that any staff found complicit will face disciplinary action. He assured that security agencies are working together to track down all remaining escapees.

Residents in Keffi and surrounding areas are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and immediately report any suspicious movement to the nearest security post.
