The city of Lagos has once again proven its dominance in Africa’s competitive gaming scene, successfully hosting GamrX 2025, the continent’s largest esports tournament, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island.

The highly anticipated fourth edition of the event took place on Friday, drawing over 1,000 gamers from nine African countries who competed in popular titles including Street Fighter, Red Bull Kumite, EA FC, Mortal Kombat, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile for a multimillion-naira prize pool totalling N15 million.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, represented the state government at the event and reaffirmed Lagos’ commitment to supporting the fast-growing esports industry.

“On behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we appreciate your investment in creativity, passion, and building a unique ecosystem of sportsmanship and achievement,” Fatodu said.

He noted that Lagos’ involvement in GamrX is strategic, citing esports as a lucrative and expanding market with the potential to boost youth engagement, innovation, and tourism.

“This is Lagos. We will continue to support this event so it becomes bigger and better. We have nine countries here today, but next year we want to double that and make it a global reference point in competitive gaming,” he added.

The 2025 edition was marked by high-energy matches, fan engagement zones, and international participation, solidifying Lagos’ place on the global esports map.
