Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has condemned the Federal Government’s decision to pardon Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), over alleged misconduct at an airport, describing it as a dangerous precedent that weakens the rule of law.
Falana warned that the pardon not only signals institutional bias but also strips the government of the moral authority to prosecute other citizens accused of similar offenses at airports across the country.
“When a high-profile individual like KWAM 1 is publicly forgiven for alleged unruly behavior at a federally regulated facility, it sends the wrong signal. The law must be blind, or it becomes meaningless,” Falana said.
He noted that the development undermines ongoing efforts by aviation authorities and security agencies to enforce discipline and safety protocols within Nigeria’s air transport system.
The senior lawyer further argued that such selective forgiveness erodes public confidence in the justice system and encourages double standards that can embolden other passengers to flout aviation regulations without fear of consequence.
This controversy has sparked debate across social media and legal circles, with many Nigerians questioning the consistency and impartiality of government actions regarding civil conduct and national security protocols.
The Federal Government is yet to issue an official response to Falana’s remarks.
