In recent weeks, rumours had circulated widely in political and social media circles suggesting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was battling a serious health challenge while abroad in London. Speculations intensified after his absence at a few public functions in Nigeria, with some commentators alleging that he had been secretly admitted for treatment.

The Senate President’s media team had earlier dismissed the reports as unfounded, stressing that Akpabio was on a private trip and remained in good health. Nonetheless, the rumours persisted and sparked debates across platforms, further fueling public concern.

The New Development

On Monday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio returned to Nigeria from London and personally debunked the claims, describing the rumours of his ill-health as “pure imagination.”

Speaking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Akpabio expressed gratitude to Nigerians who showed genuine concern but condemned what he termed “malicious fabrications” aimed at creating unnecessary panic.

“I am back, strong and ready to continue my duties. The stories about my health are nothing but pure imagination,” he stated.

Akpabio assured that his focus remains on strengthening legislative processes, supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, and ensuring the National Assembly delivers on its mandate to Nigerians.
