Police Safely Detonate Cluster Bomb in Borno Farmland

The Police Command in Borno State has confirmed the safe detonation of an unexploded cluster bomb discovered on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.

The device, measuring about 2.2 metres in length, was found partially buried by locals before being neutralised in-situ by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. Officers also conducted community sensitisation, educating residents on explosive safety and urging them to promptly report any suspicious objects.

Background

The discovery highlights the lingering danger posed by unexploded ordnances in parts of North-East Nigeria, where years of insurgency have left behind hidden explosives on farmlands, roads, and abandoned sites.

Communities in Borno, particularly farmers, remain at risk from these devices, which have in the past caused injuries, deaths, and disruption to agricultural activities. Security and humanitarian agencies have repeatedly emphasised the importance of clearance operations and public awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies.

The latest successful operation by the police adds to ongoing efforts to restore safety and rebuild confidence among residents returning to farming and other livelihood activities in the region.
