The Lagos State Government has announced plans to host the Lagos Cultural Weekend, a three-day festival designed to celebrate Nigeria’s heritage and creativity, from November 14 to 16, 2025.

With the theme “Advancing and Celebrating the Spirit of Our Heritage,” the festival will take place at multiple iconic sites across Lagos, including the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Freedom Park, National Theatre, Badagry Heritage Museum, Lekki Arts and Crafts Market, and Tafawa Balewa Square.

“A Cultural Baptism” — Special Adviser

Speaking on the forthcoming event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, said the initiative reflects the state’s vision of positioning Lagos as a global cultural hub.

“The Lagos Cultural Weekend will be a cultural baptism — an authentic introduction to who we are. Beyond showcasing traditions, it’s about investing in artisans, creatives, historians, and cultural custodians to drive engagement and economic growth,” Aregbe said.

He added that through partnerships and community participation, the festival aims to strengthen the creative economy while giving both residents and visitors a genuine taste of Nigerian culture.

What to Expect

The three-day celebration will feature:

  • Live music and traditional dance performances

  • Fashion shows and culinary tastings

  • Craft demonstrations and art exhibitions

  • Hands-on cultural workshops

  • Symposiums and lectures on Lagos’ identity and history

Cultural icons, storytellers, and diverse local groups will also take the stage, highlighting Lagos’ ethnic mix and vibrant creative spirit.
