The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has returned a cheque worth ₦5 million to its rightful owner, Mr. Godfrey Chukwudi, after the money was discovered during an enforcement operation at the Open Drug Market on Tenant Road, Aba.
The discovery was made during a coordinated raid involving officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Military, and the Police, all of whom witnessed the counting of the funds.
After investigations and clearance, it was confirmed that the money belonged to a Point of Sale (POS) operator and was not linked to any illegal activity.
In a transparent handover ceremony, the funds were returned to Mr. Chukwudi in the presence of Mr. Chima Amadi, Chairman of the Ekumi Traders Medicine Dealers Association Union, alongside senior NAFDAC officials including Pharm. Shaba Mohammed (fsi) and Dr. Martins Iluyomade (fsi).
The gesture highlights NAFDAC’s commitment to accountability and fairness in its ongoing nationwide clampdown on open drug markets, while also assuring the public of due process during its enforcement activities.
