The 2025 Enugu East August Meeting turned into a historic celebration of women’s resilience and cultural pride as Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, Wife of the Governor of Enugu State, joined thousands of women to launch the Enugu East Wrapper Revolution — One Woman, One Wrapper initiative.
The landmark programme saw 10,000 wrappers distributed to 10,000 women, symbolising dignity, respect, and recognition of women’s central role in family and community life. More than a gift, the wrapper was presented as a cultural emblem of honour, resilience, and the sacrifices made by women in society.
The event featured goodwill messages from prominent personalities including Hon. Chinwe Ogbu, SSA on Social Welfare and Inclusion; Engr. Onyinye Okpalanma, SSA on SDGs; Hon. Mrs. Caroline Ogbu, former SSA on Mobilisation; Mrs. Amaka Nweke, Commissioner, Enugu State Local Government Service Commission; Hon. Peace Patrick, PDP State Women Leader; and representatives of WOSCONET. They praised the administration’s commitment to women-focused initiatives, stressing that such programmes have positively impacted livelihoods across communities.
In his remarks, Hon. Engr. Pastor Beloved Dan-Obi Anike, Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government, described women as multipliers of resources, stressing that the wrapper represented far more than clothing — it was a mark of respect for women’s unyielding contributions to family and nation-building.
Dr. Mrs. Happiness Obi Anike, Chairperson of Enugu East LGA, underscored that empowering women strengthens families and creates resilient societies where inclusivity thrives.
Representing Mrs. Mbah at the event, Barr. Mrs. Chidimma Egeonu, SSA on Special Duties, commended the strength of Enugu East women, encouraging them to remain pillars of their families and communities.
At the close of the event, every woman present left with a wrapper — a token of appreciation and a statement of the administration’s enduring commitment to honouring women.
The August Meeting served as a powerful reminder of the strength, grace, and resilience of women whose daily sacrifices continue to uphold families and shape society.
