Popular gospel singer and broadcaster, Yinka Ayefele, has clarified questions surrounding whether his Fresh FM Music House was insured following the recent fire incident.
Addressing concerns, Ayefele revealed that while he had previously insured his musical equipment, his past experiences with insurance companies left him frustrated.
“Some years ago, I insured my equipment. After an accident in Sagamu destroyed them, I expected the insurance company to act immediately, but they didn’t. I wrote to them, even got a police report. It took getting a lawyer before they gave me something small,” he recounted.
The singer also narrated the ordeal of a friend who insured his wristwatch shop, only to be denied compensation after a robbery. “They told him he should have put a burglary proof on the ceiling. Despite legal efforts, he never got a dime,” Ayefele explained.
On the Fresh FM fire, Ayefele stressed that insurance processes in Nigeria are slow and bureaucratic, making it impractical to halt operations while waiting for a response.
“If I should put Fresh FM on hold till when the insurance company answers us, we will not come on air again throughout this year. They will first start an investigation into what caused the fire. I am not against insurance, but they don’t answer on time,” he lamented.
Ayefele’s remarks highlight broader public concerns about the responsiveness and credibility of insurance providers in Nigeria, especially when it comes to timely settlement of claims.
