Sanwo-Olu Leads Inspection Tour of Lagos Coastal Cities to Boost Tourism and Waterway Management

In a strategic move to enhance tourism and regulate waterways, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu led a high-level inspection tour of key coastal destinations in Lagos State on Tuesday, 26th August 2025.

The tour targeted the coastal towns of Ilashe and Koko, recognized for their rich tourism potential and opportunities for sustainable development. Governor Sanwo-Olu was joined by members of the State Executive Council, alongside Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Mr. Damilola Ayinde Marshal, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as management staff of the Ministry.

During the visit, the delegation assessed Ilashe Beach Resort and Koko Beach, two prime coastal attractions with prospects for boosting local tourism, generating employment, and promoting economic growth. Officials emphasized the importance of sanitizing and regulating the State’s waterways as part of broader efforts to ensure sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Speaking on the tour, officials highlighted that the inspection was aimed at identifying strategic interventions to maximize tourism potential, improve infrastructure, and enforce safety and environmental standards along the Lagos coastline.

The initiative aligns with the State Government’s broader agenda to position Lagos as a leading tourism destination in West Africa, while fostering local economic opportunities and preserving the natural environment for future generations.
