The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has granted bail to Mr. Prince Emeka Ineh, CEO of Gladius Urban Farm Africa Ltd., who is standing trial over an alleged ₦355 million fraudulent agricultural investment scheme.
Justice of the court set bail at ₦30 million with strict conditions, requiring two sureties: one must hold a valid Certificate of Occupancy, while the other must be a recognized community Chief with verifiable tax clearance. Both are required to reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Emeka was also ordered to surrender all international passports, and the prosecution must verify the addresses of the sureties. After meeting these conditions, he was released on August 26, 2025.
Investigators allege that Emeka operated a non-existent agricultural venture, enticing investors with misleading promises. The Department of State Services (DSS) is also investigating his family members and associates believed to be complicit in the scheme, which reportedly left hundreds of Nigerians financially stranded.
Despite strong opposition from the prosecution citing flight risk and the scale of the alleged fraud, the court emphasized that bail is a constitutional right and granted it with due discretion. Public debate has since ensued, with critics questioning whether financial crime cases receive adequate judicial scrutiny and warning that wealthy defendants may exploit bail provisions.
The case has been adjourned to October 21, 2025, for further hearing.
