The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has concluded a two-day in-house refresher course aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency in managing health funds. The program, which took place at the KHETFUND conference hall, brought together health professionals, administrators, finance officers, and auditors from across the state.

Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, opened the training by stressing the critical importance of sound financial management in the health sector. “Sound administration and financial accountability are the bedrock of sustainable health financing. This refresher course is designed to realign our professionals with best practices and evolving standards in fund management,” she said.

Dr. Zahraddeen noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort by the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to ensure that resources allocated to healthcare reach intended beneficiaries. She emphasized that many issues affecting health fund performance stem from knowledge gaps or misapplication of procedures, which continuous training can address.

The program, supported by the Center for Health Economics, System Development, and Analytics (CHESDA), focused on key areas including work ethics, productivity, administrative procedures, financial management, internal auditing, delegation, and team building. Participants engaged in practical exercises, presentations, and interactive discussions to ensure real-world application of lessons learned.

Alh. Abubakar Bala, Director of Administration and General Services at KHETFUND, highlighted the course objectives, which include understanding emerging trends in accounting and auditing, applying effective internal controls, and enhancing operational efficiency within KHETFUND.

Participants praised the training for its relevance and practical approach, calling for periodic refresher sessions to keep pace with evolving operational standards. The exercise demonstrates KHETFUND’s ongoing commitment to building a culture of accountability and ensuring that public health resources are managed effectively for the benefit of Kano residents.
