In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Charity, themed “Speeding Global Generosity and Strengthening Community Support,” the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, in partnership with the Jewel Care Foundation led by the First Lady of Gombe State, Hajiya Dr. Asmau Inuwa Yahaya, extended a gesture of compassion through the donation of food items and essential supplies to orphanage homes across the state.
The event, held in Gombe on Friday, underscored a shared resolve to promote kindness and deepen social responsibility, particularly toward vulnerable children and underserved communities. Reaffirming her commitment to the welfare of society’s most vulnerable, the First Lady described charity as both a moral obligation and a unifying force in times of global and local challenges.
“This year’s theme reminds us that in a world faced with challenges, generosity must move faster — reaching those who need it most. We must strengthen our communities by standing together, supporting one another, and ensuring that no child feels abandoned,” she said.
She praised the unity of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, stressing that their shared commitment continues to inspire interventions that touch lives and strengthen communities. “Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to spark hope and inspire more giving. When we pool our efforts, we create ripples of change that spread across our communities and beyond,” she added.
Representatives of the benefiting orphanage homes expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that beyond meeting immediate needs, the gesture brought emotional uplift to children who often feel forgotten. “This support gives our children a sense of belonging, a reminder that they matter, and that society cares for them,” one caregiver remarked.
The International Day of Charity, observed globally on September 5th, serves as a reminder of the transformative power of generosity in fostering solidarity, alleviating poverty, and building inclusive communities. The collaboration between the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum and the Jewel Care Foundation stands as a testament to the impact of pairing compassion with action, helping to speed generosity and strengthen the fabric of society.
