Joint Security Forces Foil Bandit Attacks in Plateau’s Qua’ran-Pan, Thousands of Farmers Displaced

A coordinated operation involving the NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police has successfully foiled repeated bandit attacks on Nteng village in Deomak District of Qua’ran-Pan Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Speaking on the intervention, Commander of the Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant AS Dandaura, revealed that the deployment followed a marching order issued by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR. He explained that the team adopted an intelligence-driven operational mechanism to address what he described as “incessant and grievous assaults” against the farming community.

Dandaura decried the level of devastation already inflicted, noting that bandit raids had destroyed farmlands, a Primary Health Care hospital, residential buildings, and other properties. According to him, the sustained violence has displaced over 4,000 farmers, many of whom are currently taking refuge in a local primary school serving as a temporary camp.

He highlighted the unique difficulties posed by the terrain, describing it as mountainous, waterlogged, and swampy — factors that have hampered rapid response by security forces and left the community vulnerable. Despite these challenges, the joint task force mounted guard operations in Nteng village to restore civilian confidence and create conditions for displaced residents to safely return.

“The synergy among security agencies is highly commendable,” Dandaura said, stressing that communities such as Doop, Keolakan, Jepmorop, and Gorom — which have suffered extensive damage and looting — can be assured of renewed protection under the NSCDC Commandant General’s directives.

He further disclosed that the NSCDC Agro Rangers Squad will soon be deployed to the area to provide specialized protection for farmers, prevent clashes between herders and farmers, and secure food production in the volatile region.

The operation underscores the federal government’s broader struggle against rural insecurity, which continues to threaten food security, displace populations, and erode trust in state protection mechanisms. While the latest intervention has provided temporary relief for Nteng and surrounding villages, residents and security analysts alike insist that sustained collaboration, infrastructure investment, and long-term security planning are needed to prevent future cycles of violence.
