The Policy Innovation Centre Gender and Inclusion Summit 2025 (GS-25), themed “New Voices and New Approaches for Accelerating an Inclusive Society,” convened policymakers, advocates, and champions of inclusion from September 3rd to 4th, 2025, engaging participants in robust sessions aimed at fostering societal equity and empowerment.

At the plenary session titled “From Policy to Practice: First Ladies as Catalysts for Norm Change and Economic Empowerment,” the First Lady of Imo State, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, FIMC, CMC, joined her counterparts from Cross River, H.E. Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, Ogun, H.E. Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, and Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, to discuss strategies for driving gender-inclusive policies and community-led initiatives. The session was moderated by Omowunmi Ayoka Gbamis, Program Officer, NGSF.

In her goodwill address, Barr. Uzodimma highlighted inclusive initiatives in Imo State, including the work of the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative (GHWFI), which focuses on empowering women economically and socially. She also emphasized collaborative efforts with First Ladies Against Cancer, acknowledging the ₦1 billion donation by the First Lady of Nigeria, H.E. Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, CON, to the National Cancer Fund in the fight against cervical cancer.

The summit provided a platform for amplifying new voices and innovative approaches to unlock individual potential, reinforce gender equity, and strengthen community resilience. By bringing together leaders from across the nation, GS-25 underscored the role of First Ladies as influential agents of change, promoting policies that address social inequalities, economic empowerment, and health advocacy.

Experts note that such initiatives not only foster inclusive development but also serve as models for replication across states, bridging gaps between policy and practical implementation. The summit’s discussions are expected to inform future programs that expand opportunities for marginalized groups, promote women’s leadership, and enhance social cohesion in Nigeria.
