Gombe State has been named among only three states in Nigeria selected to join the national delegation at the upcoming Sommet D’élevage (World Livestock Summit), scheduled for 5th–11th October 2025 in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s transformative efforts in the livestock sector.
The endorsement was conveyed by the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project National Coordination Office. In an official communication, the office commended Governor Yahaya for his visionary leadership and consistent support for livestock reforms in the state.
Malam Sanusi Abubakar, National Project Coordinator, highlighted that Gombe’s strong performance in implementing the L-PRES project, supported by active State Steering and Technical Committees, has set it apart as a model for livestock sector development.
The Gombe delegation will participate in discussions with global stakeholders, investors, and experts on livestock production, trade, and innovation. The summit, Europe’s largest livestock gathering, will focus on sustainability, innovation, and opportunities in the livestock ecosystem, offering access to cutting-edge ideas and international collaborations.
Governor Yahaya’s initiatives, including the Gombe Agro-Livestock Development Zone — featuring an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, leather factory, and other facilities — have positioned the state as a potential livestock hub for Nigeria and West Africa. The state government intends to leverage the summit to attract partnerships, adopt best practices, and further boost livestock productivity, resilience, and economic growth.
