Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has commended the officers and soldiers of 130 Battalion and 341 Artillery Regiment in Ogoja, Cross River State, for their resilience and dedication to national security. The commendation came during an operational visit to Godwin Ally Barracks, Ogoja, on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, as part of his assessment tour of Nigerian Army formations under the 82 Division Area of Operational Responsibility.
During the visit, the COAS inspected critical facilities, interacted with troops, and expressed appreciation for their sacrifices in defending the nation despite demanding operational conditions. Lieutenant General Oluyede, emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families, revealed ongoing investments to revamp schools within the barracks, aiming to provide children with quality education. He also directed the immediate renovation of dilapidated accommodations to improve living conditions for personnel and their families.
Highlighting efforts to enhance operational efficiency, the COAS noted that the recent increase in Ration Cash Allowance has improved feeding standards for soldiers and expects a reciprocal commitment to excellence in duty performance. He further disclosed initiatives to supply all Nigerian Army personnel with new uniforms and essential military kits, part of a broader strategy to standardize readiness, boost morale, and reinforce the “Soldiers First” mantra.
Gen Oluyede urged troops to uphold discipline and professionalism while strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies and host communities, emphasizing that such partnerships are essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
