Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have successfully apprehended two notorious cattle rustlers and recovered firearms, ammunition, and other items during a precision intelligence-led operation at Kogul Village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted on 11 September 2025, targeted the hideout of suspected rustlers who have been linked to recurring livestock thefts that often spark communal tensions in the Joint Operations Area. Recovered items from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, a fabricated revolver rifle, ten rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one mobile phone, and cash.
The arrested individuals and all recovered items remain in the custody of troops as investigations continue. Follow-up operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer for JTF Operation Enduring Peace, emphasized that the arrest represents a critical step in addressing the root causes of crises in the area. “This operation underscores our commitment to curbing criminality and protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area,” he stated.
The 3 Division/JTF OPEP remains steadfast in its mission to neutralize threats, maintain security, and ensure peace in Plateau State, signaling a renewed focus on preventing cattle rustling and other criminal activities that destabilize communities.
