
Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago of Niger State has been honored with the National Social Protection Award by the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO). The award was presented during the Stakeholder Engagement Conference held on September 8, 2025, at Eko Hotel, Lagos.
The award, received on behalf of Governor Bago by Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba and the State Coordinator of SOCU, Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu, recognizes Niger State’s exemplary commitment to strengthening social protection and promoting people-centered governance. Niger State was celebrated alongside Nassarawa, Lagos, Katsina, and Borno States for their outstanding efforts in social safety interventions.
Governor Bago’s administration has been commended for expanding social safety nets to support vulnerable populations, build resilience, and create opportunities for socio-economic empowerment across Niger State. Deputy Governor Garba described the initiatives as a “gateway to opportunities” for citizens, while Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu emphasized that continued government support would enable SOCU to achieve even greater impact.
The event attracted a distinguished gathering of key dignitaries, including the Ministers of Women Affairs, Finance, and Humanitarian Affairs, commissioners from 17 states, national coordinators of social programs, representatives of the World Bank, development partners, and prominent business leaders such as Tony Elumelu.
The award highlights Niger State’s dedication to inclusive governance, social protection, and sustainable development, reinforcing the state’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
