The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Chibuike Azubike, who allegedly presented himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” alongside three accomplices, in a preemptive operation that stopped an unlawful unveiling ceremony in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin.

Police intelligence revealed that the group had planned to unveil a prototype of a purported ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. Acting swiftly, operatives sealed off the venue to prevent any breach of public peace and protect citizens from being misled.

The other suspects, Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41), were apprehended alongside Azubike and are currently being held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

DSP Babasuyi Oluseyi, spokesperson for the Command, confirmed that adequate manpower was deployed for the operation, including conventional officers, the Eko Strike Force, and other tactical squads, ensuring the planned event did not take place. He added that investigations are ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned the public against falling prey to impostors exploiting cultural and traditional institutions for personal gain. He stressed that such acts are unlawful, capable of disturbing public peace, and will be met with firm enforcement of the law.
