Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s determination to provide Lagosians, especially young people, with the skills, tools, and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s fast-changing economy.

The Governor gave the assurance during the 2025 Lagos State Job Fair, held on Thursday at the Blue Roof, Lagos Television Complex, Ikeja. The event, organised by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, was themed “Your Career, Your Way: Explore Endless Possibilities.”

Represented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the Job Fair as a clear demonstration of the State Government’s resolve to build an inclusive economy where every talent is valued and given a chance to grow.

He stressed that youth empowerment remains central to the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, citing initiatives such as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP), Ready-Set-Work scheme, and partnerships with private organisations to expand job placements and career development.

“Our vision is to prepare young people not only for today’s jobs but also for the opportunities of the future,” Sanwo-Olu said, adding that continuous investment in digital literacy, vocational training, and entrepreneurship support remains a priority.

Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, represented by Mr. Toriola Abdulafeez, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in driving sustainable wealth creation programmes.

In his welcome remarks, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, described the Job Fair as a lifeline for the state’s young population. He revealed that over 200,000 jobs have been created in the past four years through direct and indirect initiatives, while billions of naira have been disbursed to start-ups, small businesses, and young entrepreneurs through the LSETF.

Ajigbotafe noted the establishment of vocational training centres and the newly opened Leather Hub in Mushin as further examples of efforts to turn creativity into enterprise. He commended development partners, employers of labour, and technical collaborators for sustaining the platform.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Esv. Wasiu Adebayo Olayinka, also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his leadership and thanked stakeholders and participants for making the event a success.

Delivering the keynote address, former MD of Wemabod Estates Limited, Mr. Oluyemi Ejidiran, described the Job Fair as “a movement to restore dignity and unlock opportunities for youth.” He urged stronger collaboration between government, employers, and schools to bridge the skills gap, while encouraging job seekers to embrace lifelong learning.

The fair drew participation from more than 300 organisations spanning ICT, finance, manufacturing, logistics, media, health, and the creative industries, with over 5,000 young job seekers and entrepreneurs in attendance.

With its growing impact, the Lagos State Job Fair continues to serve as a flagship platform for connecting talent with opportunities, deepening public-private collaboration, and inspiring young people to pursue meaningful career paths.
