Notorious Bandit Leader Accepts Peace Deal in Katsina State

Isiya Kwashen Garwa, a notorious bandit leader declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters, has reportedly accepted a peace deal in Katsina State, signaling a potential shift in the region’s security landscape. Garwa, whose name appears among Nigeria’s 19 most-wanted terrorists and bandits, reportedly turned up in the Hayin Gada community of Faskari Local Government Area, presenting himself as an advocate for dialogue and reconciliation.

Originally from Kamfanin Daudawa village in Faskari LGA, Garwa has long been linked to killings, kidnappings, and raids across forest belts in Katsina and neighbouring states. Security experts describe him as part of a wider network of armed leaders responsible for destabilizing the North-West and North-Central regions through cross-border operations and exploitation of weak state presence.

While Garwa’s recent engagement suggests a possible change in approach, local leaders and security stakeholders are carefully weighing the implications of his acceptance of peace terms. Reactions among residents remain mixed, with some viewing the development as an opportunity to restore calm to long-troubled communities, while others remain skeptical, questioning the sincerity of a leader whose group has been responsible for numerous atrocities.
