Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have sustained pressure against Boko Haram and ISWAP elements, recording two successful encounters in Kukawa, Borno State, and Umbo, Adamawa State, on 15 September 2025.

In the first incident, troops of Sector 3 on a scanning and picketing patrol along the Baga–Cross Kauwa supply route in Kukawa LGA were ambushed with an IED detonation and gunfire. The soldiers held their ground and overpowered the insurgents with superior firepower, before reinforcements arrived.

Subsequent reports confirmed that eight terrorists were neutralised, including two identified as Munzirs (warners) and a Qaid (commander). They were named as Modu Dogo, Munzir of Dogon Chukun; an unidentified Munzir; and Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota. Several others sustained gunshot injuries.

Recovered items included 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles, magazines, 7.62mm ammunition, anti-aircraft links, drugs, blankets, and other logistics materials. Two gun trucks abandoned in difficult terrain were destroyed. The Air Component of OPHK, with MNJTF precision support, further neutralised additional fighters. Significantly, there were no casualties on the part of Nigerian troops.

In a separate offensive at Umbo in Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, troops of Sector 1, working jointly with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and hunters, neutralised three more terrorists, forcing others to flee with injuries. Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a mobile phone. Again, no troop casualties were recorded.

The Military High Command praised the troops’ gallantry and called on residents to continue supporting counter-terrorism operations with credible intelligence.
