Kaduna Communities Urge Federal Government to Complete Long-Delayed Bridge Across River Kaduna

Residents of Kigudu and Sabon Kaura in Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have appealed to the Federal Government to expedite the completion of a bridge project across the River Kaduna, citing severe disruptions caused by flooding during the rainy season.

During a visit by AIT to assess the five-year-long project, the paramount ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Chief Dominic Yahaya, alongside community leaders, renewed calls for urgent completion. Residents of Kigudu, Sabon Kaura, Kampani, Chibob, and Kibori described life as increasingly difficult due to poor access to farms and neighbouring communities, compounded by years of bandit attacks that have claimed lives and destroyed property.

The community noted that security operatives often struggle to respond promptly due to inadequate roads and the absence of the bridge. The Federal Government had originally awarded the bridge construction to alleviate these challenges, but residents complain that work has dragged on for five years, with the river continuing to pose risks during the rainy season.

Community leaders emphasized that the demand for a bridge has persisted for over seventy years, noting that its completion would connect their communities with Kauru Local Government, Kano, and Plateau States, while also enhancing agriculture and local trade.

Chief Dominic Yahaya commended the government for initiating the project but urged speedy completion to promote development in the area. Similarly, Amos Gwamna, member representing Zango Kataf and Jaba Federal Constituency, stated that finishing the bridge would improve security operations, boost agriculture, and open economic opportunities for the youth.

Residents also appealed for the completion of abandoned road projects linking Kibori with Chibob and surrounding villages, highlighting the urgent need for improved transportation infrastructure to foster development in the region.
