Community leaders from Sabuwa, Dandume, and parts of Faskari Local Government Areas in Katsina State have met with Fulani leaders and armed groups in a bid to end recurring violence, abductions, and kidnappings in the region. The peace dialogue, held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Kabalawa Dugun-Mu’azu, brought together traditional leaders, local government officials, and Fulani representatives.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government, Hon. Engr. Sagir Tanimu, and his Dandume counterpart, Hon. Bashir Sabi’u Gyazama, alongside Fulani leaders under the leadership of Alhaji Idi Muwage, Alhaji Kabiru, Kachalla Rusku, Kachalla Murtala, Kachalla Mai Saje, Kachalla Dawa, Ardo Abdulsalam Fatika, and Alhaji Labi.

During deliberations, some Fulani representatives, including commander Kachalla Rusku, pledged a renewed commitment to peace and development, but also appealed for the release of their detained members as part of reconciliation efforts. They urged Hausa communities to ensure that visiting Fulani traders are no longer harassed or attacked in towns during market activities.

The Chairman of the Settlement Committee, Dr. Salisu Ladan Sabuwa, outlined conditions agreed upon by both Hausa and Fulani groups, stressing that adherence to the terms was essential for sustainable peace.

Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Engr. Sagir Tanimu assured the Fulani community of government support and encouraged them to resume normal activities across Sabuwa. Similarly, Hon. Bashir Sabi’u Gyazama called on Fulani traders to freely access Dandume market without fear. He also announced the reopening of a cattle market that had been shut down due to insecurity, a move aimed at restoring economic exchanges between the groups.

The peace meeting marks another step toward healing deep-rooted mistrust and ending violent clashes that have destabilized parts of Katsina State, as leaders expressed optimism that dialogue, mutual understanding, and adherence to agreed terms will pave the way for long-term stability.
