
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York, United States, to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The global gathering, which runs from September 22 to 28, 2025, brings together world leaders to deliberate on pressing international issues.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement and take part in high-level general debates. Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to effective multilateralism and strengthened partnerships, noting that Nigeria remains dedicated to global cooperation and diplomacy in tackling shared challenges.
During the assembly, Shettima will present Nigeria’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to climate action. He will also attend a number of side events focused on sustainable development and international collaboration.
The Vice President’s participation underscores Nigeria’s active role in global affairs, as the country seeks to deepen its diplomatic ties and help shape policies that reflect both its national interests and the values it upholds within the international community.
