Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has tasked the Delta State Public Procurement Commission with ensuring the full enforcement of the Delta State Public Procurement Law, 2020, across Local Government Councils as part of his drive for transparency and accountability.
The directive was emphasized during a meeting in Asaba between the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the leadership of the Commission.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, pledged the lawmakers’ support for the Governor’s vision, affirming that the Assembly will collaborate with the Commission to sensitize Local Government Councils on the need to operationalize the procurement law.
Lawmakers noted that adherence to the law would strengthen due process, transparency, and good governance in resource management at the grassroots, directly advancing the Governor’s MORE Agenda.
Director-General of the Procurement Commission, Mr. Edwin Abraka, disclosed that a framework for operationalization is already being developed in consultation with relevant stakeholders. He added that the reforms, rooted in the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda, are expected to deepen governance processes and bring greater prosperity to Deltans.
