Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy and fostering partnerships that connect Lagos with the global community.
Speaking at the K-Heritage Festival 2025, held on Friday at Victoria Island, Lagos, the Governor—represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka—commended the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for organising the event and choosing Lagos as its host city. He described Lagos as the “cultural heartbeat of Africa where traditions from across the globe thrive and connect.”
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the festival’s role as a bridge linking Nigeria and Korea, noting that cultural exchange remains a powerful tool of diplomacy, capable of transcending borders and fostering unity. He praised the vibrant displays of K-pop, traditional Korean dance, hanbok fashion, and Korean cuisine, saying they demonstrate how culture dissolves differences and builds meaningful relationships.
The Governor further stressed the shared values of resilience, creativity, and innovation between Korea and Nigeria, pointing out that these traits have positioned both countries as leaders in technology, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries. He assured that Lagos, as Africa’s economic powerhouse and cultural hub, is open to deeper partnerships with Korea that will enrich the State’s cultural scene, create opportunities for young people, and enhance bilateral cooperation.
Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the K-Heritage Festival would become a permanent feature on Lagos’s cultural calendar, broadening appreciation for Korean heritage while reinforcing Lagos’s role as a platform for global cultural exchange.
On behalf of the people of Lagos State, he congratulated the Embassy of the Republic of Korea on the successful hosting of the event and reiterated the government’s readiness to continue fostering cross-cultural connections.
