
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called for deeper partnerships between Lagos and China in renewable energy, smart city initiatives, skills development, and cultural exchange.
Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the 76th Chinese National Day Reception in Lagos, the Governor said such collaborations would further drive sustainable development and strengthen the vision of a Greater Lagos that is productive, resilient, and globally competitive.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended China’s leadership role on the global stage and highlighted the mutual gains in manufacturing and trade, while urging for expanded cooperation in new growth sectors.
Also speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, reaffirmed their commitment to stronger bilateral ties. They noted that Chinese investments have significantly boosted Lagos infrastructure and enhanced socioeconomic development.
On her part, the Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, noted that China has grown into the world’s second-largest economy since 1949, while emphasizing her country’s support for ongoing projects in Lagos, including medical sight restoration programmes and food support initiatives for host communities.
The event provided yet another platform to reaffirm the growing Nigeria-China relations, with leaders on both sides stressing stronger cooperation in infrastructure, trade, culture, and human development.
