
The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC) has unveiled its Masterclass Art Exhibition Series I, themed “Empowering Future Legacies”, currently on display at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Lagos Island.
Curated by Deputy Director Mr. Ayoola Mudasiru, the exhibition presents an impressive collection of works by celebrated mentors and their protégés, highlighting intergenerational artistic exchange and cultural innovation. Mentors featured include Prof. Bruce Onobrakpeya, Prof. Moyo Okediji, Prof. Kunle Filani, Chief Muraina Oyelami, Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, Ms. Ndidi Dike, Mr. Josy Ajiboye, Prof. Lara Ige-Jacks, Adeola Balogun, PhD, and Mrs. Juliet Maja-Pearce. Emerging protégés such as Ufuoma Onobrakpeya, Rasheed Amodu, Ayoola Mudasiru, Gbenga Ajiboye, and others showcase the next generation of Nigerian artistry.
The exhibition was inaugurated with commendations from dignitaries and cultural stakeholders. Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, represented by Mrs. Modupe Aregbe, Vice Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo LGA, described the initiative as “an inspiring platform for nurturing creativity and preserving heritage.” She praised the leadership of Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of LSCAC, and the curatorial excellence of Mr. Mudasiru, reaffirming support for youth mentorship and cultural legacy.
Mr. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, Special Adviser, Parastatal Monitoring Office, noted that “art is not only a visual delight but the heartbeat of collective memory and a testament to resilience,” lauding the dialogue between masters and protégés as shaping the future of Nigerian art.
LSCAC Director/CEO Mr. Idowu Johnson described the exhibition as “a vibrant celebration of artistic excellence, mentorship, and cultural heritage,” emphasizing its role in fostering creativity, tourism, and socio-economic development. He stated that the Masterclass Art Exhibition is envisioned as a continuous platform to bridge generations of artists and promote collaboration across Lagos State.
The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm until September 25, 2025.
