One Injured, Five Rescued as Two-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos

One person was injured and five others rescued after a two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening, September 24, at 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro Bus Stop, Alimosho, Lagos.

A 44-year-old man, resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho, was trapped under the debris when the building collapsed around 6:00 p.m. He was rescued with fractures and bruises and immediately conveyed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency unit by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), where he was admitted in stable condition.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the five other victims were rescued and taken to a private hospital in the area for treatment. “The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” he stated.

Social media videos circulating from the scene showed operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) actively assisting in the rescue operations. Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the collapse.
