Nigeria Police Foil Fake Kidnapping, Rescue Ivorian National in Ogun State

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through its Intelligence Response Team (IRT), has rescued Kacou Alleby, a 38-year-old Ivorian national, following a staged kidnapping incident reported on 12th September 2025. The case was brought to the NPF’s attention by INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja on behalf of authorities in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Under directives from Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the IRT launched an operation that led to the arrest of Angela Arisa, 28, also an Ivorian national, in Matogun, Ogun State. Arisa revealed the location of a hideout in Olambe Estate, where Alleby was rescued unharmed.

Investigations showed that Alleby and Arisa had conspired to fake the kidnapping to extort his family in Côte d’Ivoire, producing videos and voice notes depicting torture to demand ransom. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in creating the fraudulent content.

The Nigeria Police Force condemned the act, reiterating that self-kidnapping is a serious crime under Nigerian law, and IGP Egbetokun warned that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law, emphasizing that such schemes threaten national security and tarnish the country’s image.
